Who Are The Eastern South Downs Farmer Cluster?

The Eastern South Downs Farmer Cluster is one of many clusters across the country supported by the Countryside Stewardship facilitation fund. The fund supports farmers and other land managers across the local area to collaborate on environmental initiatives. Since its establishment in 2015, the fund has set up 180 groups comprising of 4000 members. The Eastern South Downs Cluster was formed in October 2016 and is currently made up of 41 members covering approximately 14,412 hectares. Our members manage land across the Eastern downs from Shoreham, east towards Eastbourne.

The Eastern South Downs landscape is characterised by large open arable and grassland fields. The absence of woodland and hedgerow boundaries triggers a unique feeling of expanse and exposure. These unique landscape characteristics makes its preservation all the more inspiring and rewarding.
